Job Description

This is a rotating shift position that is responsible for safely performing corrective and preventative maintenance that supports reliability of manufacturing operations.
 
 It is the goal of CertainTeed to continue achieving world class maintenance in its manufacturing sites.  It is critical to hire individuals who are open to change, and willing to work in a team environment that serves our production lines.

Qualified candidates must have both a:

  1. High school diploma (or equiv.)
  2. Minimum of 5 yrs of industrial mechanical experience

Only qualified candidates will be considered for this vacancy which is entry-level rated at $26.01 per hour.  Fully qualified and experienced applicants, however, may qualify for an increased starting rate up to $30.97.     

CertainTeed has an excellent benefits package, and is an equal opportunity employer.  The plant operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week.  Applicants must be able to report as scheduled for any shift, on any day.  

NATURE & SCOPE OF POSITION:

  • Inspect non-operational equipment for component wear.
  • Assist in replacing non-operational components of equipment that are hindering the equipment from operating efficiently.
  • Assist in fabricating and rebuilding components to be used on equipment in the plant
  • Learn to proficiently troubleshoot mechanical problems throughout the process
  • Read and interpret blueprint and layout instructions.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of hydraulic/pneumatic theory.
  • Learn basic electrical systems and develop adequate skills to understand various plant processes.
  • Perform basic welding and burning functions in a safe and efficient manner.
     
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:  Able to work an average of 40 hours per week, speak clearly so others understand, accept constructive criticism calmly, using it to become more proficient in your duties, maintain a positive demeanor, communicate with all levels of customers, whether internal or external, and be sensitive to other's needs.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to handle tools or controls, and feel objects, and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to sit and talk and hear. Other physical requirements include, ability to regularly and safely lift and/or move up to 70#'s  without assistance, ability to work from various squatting, kneeling or bending positions, ability to climb ladders up to 60 feet and the ability to work with arms above head.
 
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:  Manufacturing plant is not temperature controlled; dust, fumes, and high noise areas are present inside plant areas.  Manufacturing processes involve granules, sand, fiberglass, asphalt coating, crushed rock, and polypropylene.  Noise levels exceed 80 dB in some areas of the site. Moving equipment such as fork lifts, buggies, genie booms and industrial sweepers travel throughout the facility, sometimes in congested areas, and there are overhead hazards in some areas of the plant.
